About Chunky Pandey

Starting out his Bollywood career in 1987, with the film Aag Hi Aag opposite Neelam Kothari, Pandey shot to the spotlight with his role as Munna's (Anil Kapoor) friend in the movie Tezaab in 1988.[1] This was the first big break for Pandey as he received a Filmfare award nomination for the best supporting actor for his performance in the film. Since then he has appeared in many films with mixed success throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. Most of his films where he had the leading role never did well at the box office except Parda Hai Parda. It was always his supporting roles that made the most impact. This is evidenced from his pairings with Govinda in the blockbuster hit film Aankhen (1993) and with Sunny Deol in Paap Ki Duniya (1988), Vishwatma (1992) and Lootere (1993), all of which were box office hits. His career began to fade from the limelight in the mid 1990s due to the rising popularity and demand of other actors such as Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Before taking a hiatus, his last Bollywood release was Teesra Kaun, then he moved to Bangladeshi Cinema coming back sporadically to play bit parts in films like Bollywood with Qayamat: City Under Threat and Elaan and Don (movie).

He made a full fledged comeback in D (film) as a friend of underworld don Ibrahim Dawood. This outstanding performance landed him more meaty roles with films like thriller-comedy Darwaza Bandh Rakho and Apna Sapna Money Money. Chunkey Pandey found himself a niche as a character actor in his recent roles, transitioning out of playing the "Hero" role in his younger days. A notable example of such is his role as Aakhiri Pasta in the 2010 comedy hit Housefull (film) where he was lauded by critics and fans for his hilarious performance.

Chunky married Bhavna in 1998 and has two daughters. He decided to make a comeback to Bollywood during 2002 and ended up appearing in over a dozen movies. Apart from appearing in movies, Chunky is also involved in a business 'Bollywood Electric' which hosts stage shows. He and his wife Bhavna also run a health food restaurant in Mumbai, India.
